This week, I participated in a 2-day National Humanitarian Roundtable organized by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction under the leadership of its Minister Prof Nentawe Yilwatda. The Access Nigeria campaign is a PWD led, and targeted campaign that seeks to improve the participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria`s electoral processes. The campaign seeks to achieve this through evidence-based advocacy to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), National Assembly, and other public institutions. The Participate Today campaign is a PWD focused campaign that seeks to increase the participation of PWDs in the broader political space in Nigeria through organizing, training and active engagements with political party structures. As a result of this project, more PWDs were able to vote at elections due to our voter education massaging in the popular television networks in Nigeria.

The Making it Work initiative is run by Humanity and Inclusion. IFA was selected among various organizations in Africa leading good practices in the area of ending violence against women. In 2014/2015, IFA conducted research on the effect of violence conflict on women with disabilities in Plateau state, Nigeria tagged “What Violence Means to Us; Women with Disabilities Speak”. For IFA, the initiative was aimed at ending GBV on women with disabilities in Plateau.

Learning Together

The project is an IFA driven project where children with disabilities (CWDs) are sponsored in various schools to support their academic learning. These children are in special schools and non-special schools. The idea for us is growing to a time when more children with disabilities are enrolled in mainstream schools and foster integration among school children irrespective of their disability status.
